NDR and Radio Bremen are continuing their successful documentary series on sea rescue workers in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. Filming for the third series, which focuses on the work of the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS), has already begun. The six new episodes are expected to be released in the ARD Mediathek by the end of the year.

“Die Seenotretter” accompanies the crews on their missions on the high seas and shows first-hand what it means to save lives under extreme conditions. New additions include the stations at Darßer Ort/Prerow, Borkum and Büsum, whose operational areas are diverse: they range from island harbours and inland waters to the open sea, which is heavily influenced by the tides.
Alongside spectacular rescue operations, the third series places a special focus on the people behind the missions: their motivation, their stories, life at the stations and the strong camaraderie within the teams. It also offers an exclusive glimpse into the German Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) in Bremen. All operations in the North Sea and Baltic Sea are coordinated from there.
The documentary series is characterised by authentic storytelling, emotional moments and great respect for a task that requires courage, experience and dedication.
